Planned Giving

The Legacy Society

Planned Gifts ensure the future of Step Up.  Members of the Living Legacy Society enjoy the profound satisfaction of knowing their philanthropy will have a lasting impact on present and future members of Step Up.

A common misconception is that Planned Giving is only for “wealthy” individuals. The truth is, even people of modest means can make a powerful difference through Planned Giving.Making a planned gift is as simple as naming Step Up as a beneficiary in your will, annuity, trust, life insurance policy, IRA or retirement plan.  It is not necessary to disclose the amount of your bequest.  Notification automatically qualifies you for membership in the Living Legacy Society.  Members enjoy the following donor recognition and special benefits:

  • Living Legacy Society member recognition in the Step Up Annual Report and Newsletters (you may also choose to be an anonymous Living Legacy Society member).
  • Names of Living Legacy Society members honored at the Step Up website.
  • Invitations to an Annual Living Legacy Society private event.

We gratefully acknowledge the following Living Legacy donors who have notified Step Up of their Planned Gifts:

Sidney Stern Memorial Trust

Joy Anderson

Carolyn Baker

Joe Cahn

Dorothy B. Carpenter

Ivan Illan

Sybil Jaffy

Marjorie Kaufmann

Jack B. Perrin

Illah B. Perrin

Q: What is Planned Giving?

A: Planned Giving is finding ways to make charitable gifts now, or after your lifetime, while enjoying financial benefits for yourself. Planned Gifts are contributions made through your will, charitable gift annuities, gifts of life insurance, pooled income funds, and charitable trusts. You may also transfer highly appreciated assets, such as stocks or real estate for important tax savings. Planned Gifts are sometimes referred to as “lifetime” gifts because they require some planning and, often, help from your professional advisors. A Planned Gift made to the Step Up helps ensure the future of the services and programs we provide and may further your financial goals.

Q: How do I make a Planned Gift?

A: You can make a declaration of your commitment to provide for your gift to Step Up in your will, trust, life insurance beneficiary designation, or from your qualified benefits, such as your IRA account. Suggested language can be found on the Legacy Society Information Page. Once your Planned Gift has been been finalized, please let the Office of Community Development know, so that you may be appropriately recognized.

Q: Where can I get technical information on various Planned Gifts?

A: Call Deidre Strohm, Chief Development Officer, at (310) 696-4510 x 2200 or e-mail her  to learn how you can support our mission while ensuring your family’s financial security.
