Programs for Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), 18-28 years, at Step Up and Daniel’s Places help young people experiencing mental health issues live independently and thrive. Almost 70% of transitional aged youth unsheltered on the streets have “aged out” of foster care with no mental health support and life skills. Daniel’s Places offers services for TAY in the early stages of a mental health concern, and provides safety and support for TAY living in unstable situations. Above, Transitional Aged Youth enjoy a field trip to the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City where they explored the exhibition Sink or Swim, designing for a Sea Change* and then enjoyed a picnic lunch together in the park-like setting outside the Museum.*Sea change: A metaphor for a dramatic life or lifestyle change, as in sailing to a completely different sea.” That’s what the recovery programs and services for Transitional Aged Youth are all about! “Now is the time for us to flip the script on mental illness.” says First Lady Michelle Obama. “It’s time to tell everyone dealing with a mental health issue that they are not alone, and that getting support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength.” See video here. Today, join the 10th anniversary of National Youth Mental Health Awareness Day by spreading the message that positive mental health is important! For more info on TAY services please click here.
