At Step Up on and Daniel’s Place, Art Heals. Self-expression through the arts can help channel thoughts and emotions, guide self-expression and discovery to foster progress towards recovery. The dynamic artwork of member-artists at Step Up and Daniel’s Place will be on view at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church for the month of June. An opening reception is June 3rd, noon to 1pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church located at 1260 18th St. in Santa Monica. The month long exhibit presents 18 artworks exploring creativity, self-expression, and healing through painting, drawing, and pastels. “Do you know what the good thing about art is?” one member-artist recently said. “It helps me learn to be alone but not lonely.”
Members of Step Up and Daniel’s Place have a chance to take numerous classes that focus on visual, writing and performing arts. The involvement of our members in our Art Heals Gallery program, our Brainstorm writing sessions, or our music and poetry classes, offers them a chance to find a sense of purpose and identity, which helps to facilitate empowerment, foster change and progress towards reintegration into society. The personal growth and improvement in socialization skills, confidence and self-esteem in our members due to their involvement in our art programs is phenomenal and we are looking to continue that prospect.
The members and staff of Step Up have created an innovative ART HEALS GALLERY and Learning Center at Step Up on Fifth. The ART HEALS GALLERY exhibits the artwork of Step Up and Daniel’s Place members. The Learning Center is lab offering classes in computer skills. This highly-visible, ART HEALS GALLERY & Learning Center exhibit space also offers exciting benefits to Corporate Sponsors as well. Step Up on Second is pleased to offer prime commercial placement of sponsor recognition signage at 1548 5th Street (adjacent to the Fred Segal Santa Monica retail store). For more information about Corporate Sponsorships in the ART HEALS GALLERY, please call Kimm Baersch, Corporate Giving Coordinator, at 310-576-1308 ext. 245, os send an e-mail via our contact form. Participation in the ART HEALS GALLERY strengthens our members link with the community, builds resilience, and gives our corporate sponsors a tremendous return on their charitable investment.
